Homeowners Invest in Energy Efficiency Upgrades
Energy efficiency continues to be a motivator for home improvement projects, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Housing Survey.
Approximately 12 million American homeowners said in 2019 they'd recently completed energy-efficient upgrades to their homes, translating into improvements for 15% of U.S owner-occupied housing. Overall, such projects accounted for 27% of U.S. remodeling activity in that period.
The high point for such home investments in recent years was 2015, when 20% of homeowners said they had added energy-efficient features within the past two years, representing 34% of home improvement activity.
